If you are reading this, you have a Gmail account. Chances are, almost everybody on the internet uses Googles's beloved email account for personal or professional pursuits on a daily basis. While we're all used to archiving, labelling and marking emails, here are some tips and tricks to get you started on a journey to become a Gmail 'ninja' and get more out of your time easily.

TIP #1 - Canned Responses

If you are someone who does a lot of 'sending' with the same content or message to different people or recipients, Gmail offers a useful feature to save your time, efforts and mistakes! With the 'Canned Responses' feature, you can create automatic responses for your email and can simply share it without typing it all over again. Call it a 'lazy' feature if you may, for us it is simply brilliant!

To turn on Canned Responses, follow the steps :

  • Go to Settings
  • Click on the Labs option
  • Scroll Down, Enable and Save Changes
  • Compose a message/email that you like to send or use over and over again
  • Click on the arrow next to the 'trash' icon and select 'Canned Response' and give a name to this response or email which you'll use a lot in future.

TIP #2 - Give 'Inbox' a Chance

If you are tired of the cumbersome and overwhelming look and feel of the way Gmail works, you can opt for its simpler and streamlined cousin called 'Inbox by Google'. Not only will it help you organize your stuff quickly, it will also allow you spare moments out of your schedule to appreciate its simplicity! Yes, it is REALLY that useful with its unique feature of grouping different emails into 'bundles' which helps you to deal with work, promotional, spam, urgent or any other types of emails in a super simple way. Oh, did we mention that it also gives you reminders, lets you decide the exact time you want to read or see an email and even lets you get rid of annoying emails in one single tap!

TIP #3 - Un(send) It All

If there'd have been an award for the most useful feature to save you an embarrassing day, this would win it hands down! Have you ever accidentally hit send on a wrong email? Do you wish you could take back that one email you regret sending? Good News! Gmail allows you to go back in time (almost) and 'unsend' the last sent email. Don't worry, you don't need any fancy tweaks or geeky know-how to do this, simply follow the steps listed below :

  • Go to Settings
  • Scroll down to 'Undo Send'
  • Choose a time limit to save your life.

TIP #4 - The Power of 'Multiple'

If you are a power email user, chances are you have more than one email accounts and often need to switch between various tabs or screens to catch 'em all. Well, if such is the case, then you can thank Gmail for allowing upto 5 different Gmail accounts under one. Not only this is super convenient but is also less frustrating and saves you many moments in a day.

If you're wondering, here's how to add multiple accounts under one :

  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Accounts tab
  • Add Another Email Address

TIP #5 - 'Mute' what you don't want to hear

Annoyed by the seemingly never-ending email threads and responses in a conversation? It is time to get yourself familiar with the 'Mute' feature in Gmail. If a specific email thread is bugging you with innumerous responses, simply open it from your inbox and tap 'mute.' The thread can keep on going in the background, and you can continue to stare at a different screen in the meantime! Oh, if you feel you're missing out on the conversation, Gmail lets you 'Unmute' it as well.
